Hey everyone, currently living in Ireland and Route 66 is something I've had an interest in doing for a while now. I've finally started looking into it and ideally I'd like to hit the road around Summer 2016. I've gotta say well done on the website and community in general, fantastic and the best I've come across during my research.

Hopefully the first 3 will be up by the weekend and the rest will follow within a week or two - at the moment that's my main focus for the site. I actually find it quite addictive - it appeals the geek in me Laugh

Drove Route 66 in August 2007 - hope to do it again one day in the not too distant future.

Hi Terry - have you checked out the Plan Your Trip section? There's a great list of motels to choose from. It all depends on your tastes - if you want to see the vintage-neon style motels then make sure you stay at the Blue Swallow and Munger Moss motels.

Hi Grapenutz here...My husband and I decided to take a quick road trip and decided to do 1/2 of Route 66. We have a week off after Memorial Day, so will start at Baxter Springs, KS. We planned to drive the Jeep, but also have a pickup and two vintage campers (that need renovated) and just wondered if it was better to motel or camp? We're just going to meander for 4-5 days then head back home.

I also see that Sisters on the Fly will be traveling down Route 66 a few days ahead of us! How interesting...I'd love to see their campers and get some ideas for my own. This trip promises to be very fun! Did I see somewhere there is a natural springs? I'd love to do that, too!

Hello everyone,

I'm in the very VERY early stages of planning our Route 66 trip.

It's for the OHs birthday (the big 40) and I stumbled across you guys during an excited google search.

Thank you for letting me join, I'm looking forward to reading all the tips and stories and planning the trip of a lifetime, from what today is a rather dreary and grey Scotland!!

Hello all ... Just started to plan this trip for 2016. Starting a new adventure in my life and thought what a great way to start it. Road trip with my 21 year old daughter. We'll be going East to West. I was wondering "how long should I plan for this trip?" I do want to enjoy some of the sites and such. But I also don't want to jam so much in that it becomes overwhelming.

Just started thinking of doing something for our 2016 holiday. Ideally looking to ride a good part of the route but have no idea where to start with anything so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to chatting with you all

Hello, all. Name is Bob...long time Route 66 junkie, although I've yet to drive the whole thing. Currently planning a 3 day jaunt with my uncle in July from Springfield, MO west in a 1946 Chevy pickup. Looking forward to it, and the forum!

Hi all,
I was visiting the west rim of the canyon a couple years back and persuaded my friends to drive to 66 in Kingman and we drove to Oatman. It was an awesome adventure we had and now I'm moving from Montreal Quebec Canada to Calgary Alberta. since I have to go west anyway, why not do some of the trip along 66. I'm leaving on June first and starting my trip in the U.S. , crossing into upstate NY. I'll make my way through several states eventually hooking on near Oklahoma then onto NM, etc. I've been listening to the crazy weather in Tx and Ok, will this affect me on my trip given my trajectory. I'll be heading through Missouri on my way to Indiana then down to Ok.It will be just my wife and I so I'm just a little nervous. Any advice or helpful info would be appreciated on this long journey. Thanks in advance,

Barry

Hi there, welcome to the forum. I think I'd be inclined to recommend motels as there are so many great, iconic, motels along the route. Check out the Plan Your Trip section for inspiration :-)

You might find some of the FAQ pages of interest too...

Hi Pam, welcome to the forum Smile

When I completed the trip back in 2007 I took 2 weeks for the Route 66 portion before taking another week driving up the west coast to San Fran. I didn't feel it was a rushed 2 weeks but with equally there's plenty to see and do if you were able to take 3 weeks.

Hi Steve, welcome to the forum Smile A good starting point would be to check out the FAQ section of the website to get a feel for things. If you have any specific questions just post them here - good luck, it's an awesome trip! I'm a Brit too and this was my first US experience and I'll never forget it Smile

Hello,

just found this site after being recommended it by Will over on Tripadvisor. Looks like just the thing i am after! My 60th next year and youngest son's 16th so we are planning the route 66 in May (After GCSE exams) and into June (25 days) with some additions like flying into NYC, driving to Washington, then up to Chicago to pick up the 66, at the end i want to stand next to the 'General Sherman tree' in the Sequrioa National park, so adding that bit on before flying out of LAX or San Fran (Might drive up the coast to SF or relax in the LA Area (BEACH :) )

Just discovered the site so loads of looking and no doubt a million and 1 questions from me and hopefully when i come back i can help others who are in my situation at the moment......INFORMATION OVERLOAD and sheer panic ;)

Thanks
Steve
