Hello fellow 66ers
I have lived off the 6th spur line off of Route 66 near Gallup NM all my life.
The good old Devils Highway 666. It has been a dream of mine since I was
a kid to travel the Mother Road. So this year I will make my first leg with my
family from Colorado to Gallup NM and hop on the Mother road and follow some
of the historic portions of the road that do not dead end Gallup NM to Santa Monica
California. Next year will be the 2nd leg from Gallup NM to Chicago Il.
I dont know a great deal about the Eastern leg Gallup NM to Chicago Il. However I am
familiar with most of the Western leg. If I can be any help to any of you members please
feel free to contact me. From what I have been learning is mostly Arizona and California
have many miles of uninterrupted Route 66.
Hello. Glad to have found this site. Touring the Old Route 66 has always been a dream of mine. And finally tonight my wife just said let's plan this for next year. Since we are from Massachusetts, our plan is to ship our bike to LA and leave from there in mid-May and do the route from LA to Chicago. This puts us closer to home if we get delayed for any reason. If I push it we can make it home in 2 days from Chicago. We are planning 4 weeks to do this. Looking forward to gathering more information as we start our planning
Welcome aboard Benson!
If you run into any questions, just ask. Someone here will know.
I read Ron Warnick's Route 66 News blog every day. And it stretches back for years. It's a great source for discovering what's going on along Route 66.
If you aren't already a reader, give it a try.
My name's Bridget and and live in Scotland. I'm trying to plan a Route 66 trip that is to double as a surprise for my fiance's 50th and a honeymoon trip (so far he thinks we're going to Spain for a week) in March/ April 2018.
I have 3 weeks to do it in and out two small children are coming with us. Not sure how feasible/ sensible it is! Was planning to hire an RV for the trip too, but want to stay in motels some nights too. Basically, I have lots of variables to cram into one trip, all under the radar.
Hi all!! I'm Greta and live near Denver. My husband and I love road trips and have always wanted to do Route 66. We are talking about going next fall (2018) and going from Arizona to St. Louis, in the interest of time. We are planning on staying in some of the awesome old motels (with the best neon signs in America) and taking lots of pictures.
Bridget, I think you'll have a great time with your family. Route 66 is probably a good stretch to do with children, as there are lots of places to stop and plenty of things to look at. The kids (and you!) won't get bored. Our children are grown, but I think that it would have been a good trip for us as a family. In fact, I kind of wish that we would have done it when they were younger. Oh well. Hindsight IS 20/20 . . .
Hi everyone, my name is Jim and I am just starting to gather information to plan a motorcycle trip for myself and 3 other biking buddies. We all live in Alberta Canada and will be riding from Calgary to Chicago to begin our Route 66 trip. We plan on doing this trip in September 2017 and take roughly 24 to 30 days to do the complete trip which will be roughly 4500 miles total. I am reaching out for helpful tips and info from people with experience. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
