My name's Bridget and and live in Scotland. I'm trying to plan a Route 66 trip that is to double as a surprise for my fiance's 50th and a honeymoon trip (so far he thinks we're going to Spain for a week) in March/ April 2018.

I have 3 weeks to do it in and out two small children are coming with us. Not sure how feasible/ sensible it is! Was planning to hire an RV for the trip too, but want to stay in motels some nights too. Basically, I have lots of variables to cram into one trip, all under the radar.
Offline Hi all!! I'm Greta and live near Denver. My husband and I love road trips and have always wanted to do Route 66. We are talking about going next fall (2018) and going from Arizona to St. Louis, in the interest of time. We are planning on staying in some of the awesome old motels (with the best neon signs in America) and taking lots of pictures.
Bridget, I think you'll have a great time with your family. Route 66 is probably a good stretch to do with children, as there are lots of places to stop and plenty of things to look at. The kids (and you!) won't get bored. Our children are grown, but I think that it would have been a good trip for us as a family. In fact, I kind of wish that we would have done it when they were younger. Oh well. Hindsight IS 20/20 . . .

Offline Hi everyone, my name is Jim and I am just starting to gather information to plan a motorcycle trip for myself and 3 other biking buddies. We all live in Alberta Canada and will be riding from Calgary to Chicago to begin our Route 66 trip. We plan on doing this trip in September 2017 and take roughly 24 to 30 days to do the complete trip which will be roughly 4500 miles total. I am reaching out for helpful tips and info from people with experience. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Offline Hi My name is Steve and I live in Scotland. My business partner and I are planning to ride Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles. He is a biker. I am not. So we thought we would do it on Trikes. Any advice/recommendations??
Do you think it is better to do it as part of an organised tour party or just set off and see what happens??
Any thoughts, plans or experiences would be welcome. Also is there a 'best time of the year' to do this?

Offline Hello My name is Nicole. I'm an American living in Italy. It is my (Italian) husband's dream to road trip Route 66. We will be doing it this summer with 8 other friends. I'm trying to figure out the itinerary as we only have a very short time, 12 driving days to be exact.
Open to any and all suggestions. But I'm particularly stuck on the first leg of the trip which I feel should be done from Chicago to St.Louis in 1 day.
Offline Frank here from Detroit. My buddie and I are flying into Lax on 09.09.17, already have a vehicle reserved and plan on leaving Santa Monica Pier headed east on Route 66 on Monday morning 09.11.17
We have three weeks to return the car back in Detroit and have a pretty good idea of what we want to see, along with side trips.
Our first night we plan on staying in Barstow, CA and had planned on staying at the Route 66 motel and finding at two months out this motel is booked for the night we need.
Our second night will be in Needles with a side trip up the Hoover Dam from there.
It does pay to plan ahead if you want reservations in ICONIC route 66 motels.
The Route 66 Dining and Lodging guide will help with the future reservations as we plan deeper into our trip.
We also used Auto Slash to book the car; this site saved us a few bucks that we will spend on cold beverage after a day of sightseeing.
