Hi My name is Steve and I live in Scotland. My business partner and I are planning to ride Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles. He is a biker. I am not. So we thought we would do it on Trikes. Any advice/recommendations??
Do you think it is better to do it as part of an organised tour party or just set off and see what happens??
Any thoughts, plans or experiences would be welcome. Also is there a 'best time of the year' to do this?
I'm looking forward to sharing thoughts and plans!
Steve

Hello My name is Nicole. I'm an American living in Italy. It is my (Italian) husband's dream to road trip Route 66. We will be doing it this summer with 8 other friends. I'm trying to figure out the itinerary as we only have a very short time, 12 driving days to be exact.
Open to any and all suggestions. But I'm particularly stuck on the first leg of the trip which I feel should be done from Chicago to St.Louis in 1 day.

Frank here from Detroit. My buddie and I are flying into Lax on 09.09.17, already have a vehicle reserved and plan on leaving Santa Monica Pier headed east on Route 66 on Monday morning 09.11.17
We have three weeks to return the car back in Detroit and have a pretty good idea of what we want to see, along with side trips.
Our first night we plan on staying in Barstow, CA and had planned on staying at the Route 66 motel and finding at two months out this motel is booked for the night we need.
Our second night will be in Needles with a side trip up the Hoover Dam from there.
It does pay to plan ahead if you want reservations in ICONIC route 66 motels.
The Route 66 Dining and Lodging guide will help with the future reservations as we plan deeper into our trip.
We also used Auto Slash to book the car; this site saved us a few bucks that we will spend on cold beverage after a day of sightseeing.

Hi all. My name is Stephen. I'm starting to plan my route 66 for June/July next year. Having rode 66 on a motorcycle in 04, with the mother road rally, I'm introduceing my son to the joy's of rideing the open roads of the USA. In 04 tarveled the 2,400+ mls of the road over 7 days, this time want to travel at a more leisurley pace and take in more of the sights and experiences.
As of yet we're undecided as wether to do it on motorcycles or a car, costs being major factor.
Watch this space!

Hi. My husband and I want to do the Route 66 trip probably next summer. We want to take our corvette. Can you tell me how much time we should allow going out and back from Chicago? We live in Northern Indiana but will pick up 66 in Chicago it looks like. This is a bucket list trip for us so I am trying to figure it out and just what will be involved.

Hello all,
My name's Richard ("Rich" is fine) and I'm originally from Aberdeen, Scotland, but now living in Bristol, England. I'm a keen biker, and a fan of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and particularly enjoy touring with them. I've done trips around the highlands and islands of Scotland, Republic of Ireland, and into Europe (France, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway).
I will be riding Route 66 west-to-east in May 2018 with my wife (passenger) and stepfather. We've hired Harleys from Eaglerider, and planning to take a month to travel LA-Chicago, via Death Valley, Vegas, and with detours to, of course, the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley. If we can, we'll pop up to Milwaukee, WI, for the Harley-Davidson Museum (it has to be done!) We have old family friends in Oklahoma as well that we shall be visiting.
Looking forwards to exploring the forum and sharing stories with fellow travellers. If anyone lives along our route, or will be there at the same time as us, then please don't hesitate to say hi!
Best regards all,
Rich

Hi folks, my name is Sebastian and I come from Germany.
My wife and I will do the 66 end of may. We will start in L.A. and do the 66 kind of „reverse“ on Harleys.
We booked the bikes for 16 days and we are very excited and looking forward travelling the old Route 66 as much and close as possible.
At the end of our trip we will have 3 to 4 days for exploring Chicago.
Any recommendations are welcome and appreciated!
Kind regards from Germany,
Sebastian

Hi everyone, residing in UK, Hubby and me are planning our trip for 2018 in May. We are both retiring this year, so the freedom and adventure begins! Only just starting to gather info, as planning it all ourselves. I have a question. We plan to go from Chicago to LA, so thinking to fly into Chicago, and fly back from LA. Would this be possible on one ticket? All returns are from same airport.

Hi everyone!
We are planning our drive for some time in 2019 but we haven't settled on the dates just yet. Just beginning to gather information. We've got three kids, who will be 14, 11, and 5 or 6 (depending when we go). They are all road warriors and have traveled by car all over so I'm not worried about them handling the car time. I have so many questions and so many thoughts about this trip. I'd really love to drive one way and fly home but I don't even know how to do that with rental cars and that many miles and all that junk. So much research to be done!
