Searching for Route 66 car hire can be a laborious task; trawling through the many different car hire companies, filling in the same forms over and over again. By using the single form below RentalCars.com will search all of the major rental companies at once to find the best deal on your Route 66 car hire. This is the company that I've used for every US road trip and it's always given me the cheapest quote and good service.

Just enter the dates and pick-up location (more on this below) and this one form will help you find you the best price by searching Hertz, Avis, Alamo, Budget, Enterprise, Dollar and Thrifty on your behalf!

Where should I pick up the car?
If you're flying in to Chicago and travelling east to west then an ideal pick-up location for Route 66 car hire would be Chicago O'Hare Airport (ORD). However, if you plan on staying in Chicago for a day or so, then set the pick-up location to simply "Chicago" and you'll be presented with a range of downtown options. Same applies if you're flying in to LA and heading east - either collect from Los Angeles Airport (LAX) or a downtown alternative.

What about one-way hire?

Most Route 66 road trips tend to require one-way car hire (for example, picking up in Chicago and dropping off at LA). If you only plan on driving the car one-way then be sure to uncheck the box that says "Return car to the same location". Be aware that there's always a one-way fee applicable if you want to drop the car off at a different location.
