While this is a great place for us to pass on our recommendations for those who have not travelled the Route yet, but are planning on it, I think it is also important to give our recommendation of where NOT to stay of visit.  So if you have any bad reviews feel free to post it to this string.  I will start it out.

DO NOT STAY at the Carlyle Motel in Oklahoma City OK.  It is a total crap hole.  The bathrooms are disgusting, paint on the wall was peeling, lamps with no bulbs, and the rooms look like they haven't been updated in about 50 years.  They have a swimming pool, but it is filled with dirt...no really FILLED to the top, with dirt.  There are many much more desirable places in OK City to stay.  The only good thing I can say about this place is they have a nice neon sign.  Stay clear!

LaughLaugh Now that really does paint a picture of a BAD motel!! Made me chuckle though, although probably not you at the time Smile

Drove Route 66 in August 2007 - hope to do it again one day in the not too distant future.

Actually I did chuckle when I saw the pool, but that was the only thing I smiled about there.

About Driving Route 66

What started as a record of my personal Route 66 experience has grown into an active community of Route 66 veterans and newcomers alike. This website relies entirely on the experiences of its users so please feel free to recommend your own personal favourites.

Every Route 66 road trip is unique, and this site is in no way intended to be a definitive guide to the old road. However, I sincerely hope it offers a starting point to anyone planning their own Route 66 vacation.
