Hi All,

Me and my fiancé are travelling the West Coast for about 3 weeks in 2014; were saving up around £6000 to take with us to rent a car and start in San Fransisco. Wel then travel down to LA, Santa Barbara, San Diego, to Las Vegas, then back to LA to go home!

Very excited and looking forward to hearing everyone's stories and recommendations!

Georgie

Hi Georgiee, sounds like a good trip. I've driven up the west coast from LA to San Fran before and had an excellent time. The scenery on the coastal road is pretty amazing. If you decide to have a romantic one I recommend a hotel called "The Inn at Avila Beach" in a small place called Avila Beach - it was an amazing stay. We arrived there by accident late in the day and were offered a good rate in a sea view room (more like a suite) with a balcony. The owner liked to treat everyone like house guests and so offered access to a large kitchen and, more significantly for us that night, a huge DVD collection. We went out to a local fish restaurant that night right on the sea front and then headed back to the room with a bottle of wine, laid out on the four poster bed and watch Dirty Dancing (my wife's choice not mine!) The sound of the waves as you're falling asleep is awesome! Definitely recommend - look it up!

Set up the Driving Route 66 website in 2010 following the best road trip experience in 2007.
