hi im from london England i cant describe how excited i am to get my kicks on the route 66 with my mates, me an the boys are travelling the route 66 in june in a C30 RV , were hoping to stay in this quite alot of the time to save money etc, plus thats the whole point of having it!

is there any parts of the route that will be too dangerous to drive through in the RV? ive heard theres a part of the Grand Canyon to avoid driving an RV? were going for 23 days starting in Chicago, weve got lots of ideas detours an places to visit but would appreciate any places etc you'd recommend? we have accomodation booked for in beverly hills for the last 4 nights of our stay, we will be there on July 4th which im excited about as i have no idea what to expect i think thats the fun part about it 🙂

we also want to drive up to san fran as we really wanna do the alcatraz island at night! we def want to stay in vegas for atleast 3 nights, we def want to explore the grand canyon ! we want to visit Roswell, miremac caverns go to a rodeo dress up like cowboys for the night an get drunk! my mate wants to visit the aeroplane graveyard in tucson,i know its about a 600 mile detour off the route 66 has any1 got any info on that? western america is where i think we will spend the majority of our time but central america i dont know too much about ? also we will have less time if we do decide to go san fran! what will the weather be like? shall we be weary of tornados hurricanes etc??? we realise we cant do everything an we dont want to plan every single day we just wanna have fun! sorry if ive bored any1, but id really appreciate any tips of info thanks again

Richie:  WOW!  Boys Just Wanna Have Fun, Right?!

First off, what's a C30?  Or perhaps better stated--what dimensions does it have?   I can think of a couple spots where a huge lumbering RV would be trouble, but it all depends on the size and horsepower.

In most cases you can park your RV on the nearly-empty lots of Walmart stores at night--where it's legal that's probably the best option.

Really doing justice to Rt 66 alone will take you two weeks.  Check out the Travel section at my site https://www.rt66pix.com for a trip outline and other basic info including the weather.  RV websites are listed too.

Sorry to say you've got way too much on your plate and won't be able to do it all.  66, Beverly Hills, and Vegas (as you have planned) would be a full three weeks.

hi frank, cheers for the reply! Ford C30 is the biggest RV you can hire i think sleeps 7, 30ft long! not sure on the horsepower? I thought there was lots of parks along the route 66 where you can park up for the night have a bbq an get drunk? well thats what were hoping!

yea unfortunately we wanna try and do everything but we realise we wont be able to 🙁 we wanna just try an have the best of both worlds! if we cant do San Fran we cant do it, Route 66 is the most important thing to us! il check out your website and thanks again

Hi fella - welcome to the forum!

Your trip sounds awesome but as Frank says you're taking on too much in the time you have. For me the first thing to jettison would be San Francisco - lovely city but a fair trek out of your way. I'd probably knock Tucson on the head too but that's just me. Have you checked out the FAQ pages here on the site for itinerary ideas etc?

I think you guys will have a hell of a trip and Vegas will be right up your street. I spent 3 nights there on my Route 66 trip and loved it - late nights, cocktails, Bellagio fountains, bit of gambling, and pizza for breakfast when you roll out of bed at 11 each day! It's not to everyone tastes but I sense that you'll love it 🙂

I think you boys would also really like the excess of The Big Texan restaurant too - the 72oz steak challenge, drinking beer from plastic cowboy boots, a side order of deep-fried bulls testicles - definitely a night to remember!

Keep in touch and let me know how the planning is going and I'll help where I can 😀

Set up the Driving Route 66 website in 2010 following the best road trip experience in 2007.
