Hi everyone

Just after recently joining this site and from looking at past forums I see that there are a lot of excellent recommendations and advice.

Myself and my husband are planning our trip along Route 66 at the moment. We will not be in a position to travel until Oct 2018, however I'm trying to get as much research done as possible so we have a rough idea of cost etc and be able to add extra for anything unexpected that might happen - we are coming from Ireland so it will take a bit of planning.

We were thinking at the minute of Chicago to LA however I understand we could still go as far as San Fran if it was financially possible. But for now i'll just stick to finishing in LA. I was thinking of having accommodation pre-booked in these two cities and then book as we go along the route. However based on peoples experience do you think this is wise or can you suggest what towns/cities would be better to pre-book instead of just rocking up to a motel on the day? Also if there are certain hotels in Chicago and LA, reasonably priced, but not miles outside of the city that you have stayed in and recommend, I would love to hear.

We would also like to book a night at the Wigwam hotel at the Grand Canyon (I know that this would require pre booking also) but after that I haven't really done any more accommodation research.

Also have people traveled in October and is the weather still ok to go then?

Looking forward to hearing from you all and hearing about your experiences.

Linda
