Hi my name is Colum and I want to start planning a road trip for next year. I'm doing it during my J1 and something that i can't seem to find is a company that rents classic cars to do the route. Preferably a convertible . Anybody help?

Colum–I don't believe there is such a firm.  Keeping, say, a 59 Cadillac in road-worthy condition for such a long rental would be a near-impossible task.  The closest you will come is renting a NEW muscle car, such as a Ford Mustang or Dodge Charger.  The Mustang is available as a convertible.  You may have trouble getting one if you are under age 25.  And trunk space will be limited.  I photographed a British couple on Rt 66 in the near-ghost town of Glenrio TX/NM last year.  They were in a rented Mustang convertible, and loving it.

An aside to the post above:  While it apparently is not possible to rent a CLASSIC car from the 50s or 60s to do Route 66, luxury or exotic cars can be rented in places like Los Angeles and Las Vegas.  Google "classic car rental" or "exotic car rental."  Enterprise, one of the major rental outfits, has some--including at times Porsche Boxers, various Mercedes, Jaguars, BMWs etc.

You might rent a new Mustang convertible in Chicago for Route 66, then turn it in and get something more exotic in LA for Beverly Hills and Santa Monica.
