Having purchased the EZ66 book, potentially going to use a TomTom and will also have mobile devices in hand with access to maps I was thinking am I getting / going map crazy or just have a complex about getting lost!?!

Main problem with using mobile devices for us Brits is going to be roaming costs to use software such as Google Maps.

I know people who have racked up £300-£400 ($500-$600) bills using their phone abroad!

A little tip for you…

Google Maps now offers an 'offline' mode, so the map is downloaded to your device. Any mobile device that has GPS enabled (most do these days) will also display your current location on that offline map – so a big cost saving for when you have got lost and a pretty accurate way of knowing where exactly you are!

How does it work?

Load Google Maps (following was performed on an Android device) and enter a region into the search box. My initial test was Los Angeles as it was potentially the biggest cityregion.

This will then display that region to where you can screen pinch the size of area to download.

To give you an idea based on LA:

North to South – Just past Santa Clarita (Six Flags Magic Mountain country!) to Irvine

East to West – Redlands (past San Bernadino) to Santa Monica

The offline map will then become available in your favourites to use when ever you like and without any data usage.

Hope that helps some of you 66'ers out. Cool

Safe travels
