Dave,

I think taking an RV down the Route would be a lot of fun. I hope you folks have a great time.

The only campground I am personally familiar with is the Double J in Chatham (Springfield) Illinois. We stayed there last summer, and it's a nice place, right on Route 66, and offers easy access to the many sites in Springfield. Double J's link is below. I'll also include my personal list of interesting things to see in Illinois. Items in bold are in/very near Springfield.

Enjoy the drive!

Dave K--

DynoDave has given you all the Illinois stops.  Highlights of the rest of the trip are in the Travel section of my site, https://www.rt66pix.com.  There are some RV info links.  Even a few pictures in the galleries.

In addition, the big entertainment center of Branson MO is an hour away from 66 at Springfield MO, so is the Grand Canyon from either Flagstaff or Williams AZ.  And Las Vegas is about two-hours away from Kingman AZ--and in the process you can tour Hoover Dam and pass over a spectacular new bridge.

With three weeks, you have plenty of time to sample all of these and still get some beach time in Santa Monica CA.

Dave,

I should have mentioned...you can check for campgrounds here.

https://www.trailerlifedirectory.com/

It's a great guide for finding campgrounds that are clean, pleasant places to stay.
