I’ve driven 66 several times. I’m planning another trip in less than a month; primarily to explore and photograph some of the abandoned and less traveled parts of 66, which includes many dirt roads. I’ve been watching the weather the southwest has been getting recently and it’s becoming a bit concerning – does anyone have any first-hand knowledge of the current state of dirt roads out there?

Here in the mid-Atlantic we’ve have had an exceptionally mild winter with very little precipitation, so it’s a bit unexpected and worrisome, even with a 4WD. Many of the reference books I’m using frequently say DO NOT drive when wet when referring to many of the abandoned and dirt alignments of 66. Would appreciate any first-hand observations. I’m traveling alone so it’s not like I’ll have assistance if I get stuck.

Thanks,
Bob
