My husband and I are looking to rent a convertible in Chicago and dropping it off in Los Angeles.  Anyone know a contact?  Thanks  Shirley

Shirley--

Try https://www.orbitz.com which searches several companies.  Convertibles are in very high seasonal demand for Chicago-LA.  If you really have trouble, you might try getting a regular car from Chicago to another large Rt 66 city, and then picking up a convertible there for the rest of the trip.  Good luck!

Shirley, Hertz hire mustang convertibles but they are quite expensive compared to other cars. We are doing the Route in April and we ended up hiring an SUV to drive from Chicago to Las Vegas and then we are swapping to a convertible for the last week into L.A, which worked out a lot less.

Hi Shirley,

We had the same issue. We're travelling May-June, and ending up taking good advice from the forum to hire a regular car with Hertz from Chicago to Las Vegas.

We're then getting a convertible Corvette for 2 weeks, it cuts the cost a bit to use a regular vehicle for the first stretch.

For others in this situation, here's a GUESS on Rt 66 cities beside Chicago that might have convertibles available for one-way to LA. This is based on population, nothing more:

Springfield IL, St Louis MO, Springfield MO, Joplin MO, Tulsa OK, Oklahoma City, Amarillo TX, Albuquerque NM.

The last four tend to have shorter/milder winters, so convertibles may be in stock.
