One of the buried Cadillacs at the famous Cadillac Ranch outside Amarillo TX was hit by fire around 2:00 AM on September 8 2019. The damage only affected the paint, not the underlying steel, and can be painted over.
While spray-painting graffiti at this quirky site is encouraged and NOT vandalism, the same cannot be said of arson.
This mid-section of the Mother Road is being degraded in various ways, from graffiti on well-known buildings to destruction of glass and even stone walls of remote and abandoned buildings. An earlier posting below has the grim details.

About Driving Route 66

What started as a record of my personal Route 66 experience has grown into an active community of Route 66 veterans and newcomers alike. This website relies entirely on the experiences of its users so please feel free to recommend your own personal favourites.

Every Route 66 road trip is unique, and this site is in no way intended to be a definitive guide to the old road. However, I sincerely hope it offers a starting point to anyone planning their own Route 66 vacation.
