WinkHi everyone, I am planning a self drive road trip June 2013 or maybe June14 as there will be another two couples joining myself + the wife ( total of 3 vehicles ). I have so far come up with the following route as an itinery :-

Chicago 2nts

St Louis 1nt

Springfield  (mo) 1nt

Oklahoma City 1nt

Amarillo 2nts

Albuquerque 1nt

Holbrook 1nt

Williams 1nt

Las Vegas 2nts

Los Angeles 2nts

Can anyone - advise ,improve on or share some tips on this itinery.I'm not sure of the time of year we intend to travel but if possible would like to throw in  Baseball, Rodeo or American football game.Look forward to any suggestions you may have. Cheers. Taffy.

Taffy--You're going to miss a LOT on 66 with such a fast schedule.  It looks like you're trying to cram everything into a two-week vacation (holiday).

With that many people you might consider renting a single conversion van, or even an RV.  That might well be cheaper than using three cars.  Everyone would have more comfort and you could share driving.

Major league baseball is in Chicago, St. Louis and Los Angeles en route.  Minor league teams would play in Oklahoma City, Amarillo and similar-sized places.  The US football season is later in the year--September onward.

Other good Route 66 experiences are drive-in theaters (summer weekend nights only) and car shows (summer weekends).

The Travel section of my site: https://www.rt66pix.com has a two-week trip outline with links to RV rentals, a listing of drive-ins etc.
