Is anyone planning on doing a route 66 road trip this year? If so, what time of year are you going? Smile

I will photograph the newly-operating 1959 neon sign at Roy's in Amboy CA against the backdrop of a desert sunset. Exactly when is uncertain.

I hope to resume some travel this year, including the postponed stop at Roy's along Route 66 in Amboy California where new neon is in place. But CA is strongly discouraging travel from out of state because hospitals have been swamped with Covid-19 patients. It looks like 2022 is a better bet for any extended out-of-state travel.

Just read about the new signage:

Are you hoping to get some new pics?

Yes, the new neon combined with the setting sun behind mountains...that kind of thing. The desert is generally pleasant around sunset and I will have a motel already booked ahead in Barstow.

Yes, they'll be on the site. The trip will likely be in 2022 because of restrictions. I also want to do more driving and photography along the Pacific Coast Highway--which was breached a few days ago by a massive mudslide near Big Sur.
