We are at a loss to where to begin planning our trip. Here's what we have so far. Any tips on how to progress our plans are much appreciated. I don't know where to start.
We are traveling West to East - Car hire from LA to Chicago, stopping over in Vegas for 3 days to get married. Then we have just over 2 weeks to do route 66 to Chicago.
We have booked our Vegas accommodation, flights and we know roughly what car we want to hire.
How and where do we start planning the actual road trip, did you get a big map? How did you work out where you stayed each night, and how long the journey would take each day and what stopovers you wanted?
We have the book EZ 66 but I find its way too much info for me to digest and the directions frankly scare me. As we are going it West to East, its hard reading the book in the order needed.
I really do not know where to start or how to do this.

Congrats on the wedding plans!
I don't know if I can help, I'm new to this planning too... I basically planned out our trip from east to west but seem to be struggling with the bits you've already got an idea about (such as what kind of car and where to stay in Vegas!).
I started out using this website... https://www.bon-voyage.co.uk/i.....eluxe_tour primarily because it was one of the first websites I stumbled across when starting out this whole planning thing. It's actually a website outlining a whole pre-planned trip that can be booked. I then created a document in word with a new heading per day based on that trip and under each heading started filling in key things we'd want to see along the route on that day and in the order we would come across them on the route. I quickly realised that my headings could not match the headings from that website to fit in what we specifically want to do, so moved the days about accordingly, but the starting point from that site was a great help. Our planned trip for 66 is now at 20 days whereas that initial plan is 15 days. Where I'm at now is my document split into the days, with a list on each day of key points of interest for us, the approx number of miles planned per day, and where we have a hotel pre-booked I've put in the address/booking reference number/etc. It's not 'finished' but it's helped me feel like I have a plan that is structured enough that I don't feel like its chaotic, but without being so structured that we can't deviate from it.
I don't know if that is any help at all?
