Pacswoman:  Sounds like a great plan.  I did notice two omissions from your list, perhaps because both are relatively new.  In Chandler OK there's the unique "Route 66 Interpretive Center" housed in a 1936 sandstone armory.  The website is https://www.route66interpretiv.....center.org.  This will add to your understanding of the road, and nicely complements the museums in Clinton and Elk City OK.  All three are different and well worth seeing.

And in Arcadia, you've got to stop at Pops!  You can't miss it: just look for the 66-foot tall pop bottle out front.  The best experience begins around sunset.  The site is https://www.pops66.com.

And one stop you DO have listed, the old filling station at Warwick OK, Seaba Station, is now a motorcycle museum.  This is also a recent change. The site is https://www.seabastation.com

Hi, new member and Route 66 resident here. When you visit Litchfield, IL, don't skip the Skyview Drive-in movie theater. As the film critic for the daily newspaper in St. Louis, I've been to about 100 drive-ins from coast to coast (and even one in China), and the Skyview might be the most beautiful, with a white picket fence out front and a train track on the back line of the property. Admission is only $2.00! Every summer they have at least one classic-car show, which is where I had my wedding reception, watching "Two Lane Blacktop." Even if you don't have time for a movie, you'll want to stop there. Next to the marquee on old 66 is a historic marker and a push-button that plays audio reminiscences from old-timers.  https://www.litchfieldskyview.com

What a fantastic post! You're someone who clearly loves their trip-planning even more than me!

The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City is a good stop if you have time but it sems to me that you've got more than enough to occupy your time 🙂

Let us know how it goes... Laugh

Set up the Driving Route 66 website in 2010 following the best road trip experience in 2007.

Bloody hell, and I thought I'd done my research... when do you head off Pacswoman? My other half and I fly out to Chicago Sunday 6th. Hope you don't mind but I've cribbed this to compliment the notes and guidebooks we've already worked our way through. How long have you allowed yourself to cover all of this? We have "only" given ourselves 18 days so will try to cram as much in as possible!

Wow! This is a fantastic list - thanks ever so much for posting it! I may have to print off a copy to make sure that I don't miss anything! My trip starts in exactly 4 months 🙂 and I've been planning it for the past year but don't have anything this comprehensive yet. Hope you have a fab trip! Xx
