Hello all.

I was wondering if any past 66'ers could shed some light on the possible return fees expected to be paid on rentals from Chicago and ending in LAX?

Going direct to rental sites seems to vary in cost, but their prices are inflated anyway. Here in the UK a broker named Carhire3000 mentioned they could get this fee heavily reduced, especially if they booked us up with Alamo.

Anyone have any experience they could share on this?, and if UK based travellers have used Carhire3000, did they live up to their word as I have in past had issues where brokers have said something and the rental company were oblivious to it (mainly to do with insurance!).

Safe travels

Maybe it's not in the spirit of the drive, but my plan is to do LA to Chicago.  See exactly the same attractions, but only in reverse.   The bonus being that normally there is no $500 return fee when returning a car back to Chicago.

Drove Route 66 in 2012.

First hope helps.
Having done a few road trips in the US over the last few years I have always found the return fee to be quite variable between rental companies.
We start our R66 adventure in a weeks time.....after looking at a huge number of web sites and travel companies I have plumped for National who have stated on my booking receipt that the they have a maximum one way drop off fee across the US of $250.....which is lower than many....I've was quoted up to $900 on one site.
I had the web company I used to book it confirm that for me also.
I have paid a little more for the vehicle than some providers were quoting but still netts out cheaper over all.
Interested in any feedback around the above.....
