Hi everyone, me and a couple friends will be leaving Chicago on the 9th September, we plan to take the original most southern route all the way to Arizona and then take a slight detour to Las Vegas...from there head to San Francisco to take the "Grand Sur" down to L.A
Any recommendations welcome!
Happy Travels 🙂

Welcome to the forum Dan. If you have enough time I suggest 150 - 200 miles a day to make the Route 66 section of your trip enjoyable. That will give you time to enjoy the sites, meet people, and not be stressed. If you haven't already I suggest you get a copy of the guide "Route 66 Easy Guide" by Jerry McClanahan. It can be bought on Amazon at a reasonable price, and is considered by most that it is the best guide for the route. It may be to late to order one, but you can find one many places along Route 66. Enjoy your journey.
Also, to get more information I suggest you make a new thread with this question. More members will see it, you will get more suggestions, and help.

@Daniel Kitchen....funnily enough we land in Chicago on Wed 7th and collect our car on Fri 9th. Imagine you're behind me at the desk ha ha. Your trip sounds similar to ours....we're detouring at Kingman through Vegas and staying in Death Valley before heading to San Fran, then down highway 1 to Malibu then west hollywood.
Maybe we'll pass at some stage. Drop me a line if you're stuck anywhere...on twitter as: @Route66couple
Safe journey....Hylton & Yvonne.
