Hi everyone I am from Ohio! I am just in the planning stages for a suprise Route 66 trip from New Mexico to California for my husband and I. We have 6 days to travel and we want to include Grand Canyon and maybe a night in Vegas. I would LOVE to rent him a mustang but with it being in February I am a bit concerned about snow/ice. Any thoughts on the time frame, weather, and car rental during the month of February?

Where do you plan to start the trip exactly? Here's the itinerary we used for the New Mexico to California stages of our trip:
Day 1 Tucumcari NM
Day 2 Tucumcari to Santa Rosa then Santa Fe NM (175 m)
Day 3 Santa Fe to Albuquerque NM (60 m)
Day 4 Albuquerque to Holbrook AZ (230 m)
Day 5 Holbrook to Grand Canyon National Park (169 m)
Day 6 Grand Canyon National Park to Seligman AZ (102 m)
Day 7 Seligman to Needles CA then Las Vegas (273 m)
Day 8 Las Vegas (explore)
Day 9 Las Vegas to Needles CA then Barstow CA (258 m)
Day 10 Barstow CA to Santa Monica CA (131 m)
It can be done in 6 days but you'll really be rushing it. You'll only have 1 night in Las Vegas and you'll probably need to drive straight from Vegas to Santa Monica.
It really depends where in New Mexico you intend to start the trip. Tucumcari would be a great place to start because you could spend the night in the iconic Blue Swallow Motel.
You could miss out on Santa Fe and just keep south instead, but Santa Fe is beautiful and well worth visiting.
Please ask if you have any questions and have fun planning your trip!

We are starting in Albuquerque my husband is a huge Breaking Bad fan so we want to see where it was filmed. We have added 4 more days to our trip so that we have a bit more time. I would love to see Santa Fe have heard it is really nice. If only 60 miles probably will work it in...hate not too! I really appreciate you breaking down the mileage between the cities gives me a good idea of how long it will take. Any favorite restaurants or places to stay along the way? There are a ton of books out there to help you navigate your way... Any suggestions?
