Welcome Kitty. We will be heading your way in 4 weeks. We always stop at the Donut Stop on Route 66 at Lincoln St. when you go through. We stopped at the one out on I-40 the first time in Amarillo (2010), and it has became a must stop for one of their delicious apple fritters. As the plan is now we will be in your fair city on Sept. 18th. If you see a silver Corvette convertible, give us a wave.
Also, we always stop, and talk with Fran out in Adrain. We met her on our 2010 run when she was still running the Mid-Point, and became friends. So, we now stop at her shop next door to get the scoop on the goings on in Adrain. She's a fine lady.

Hi Jim,
is this the donut stop address, trying to plot things in google maps before we do the route Sunday 21st August.
I have plotted the Mid point cafe but will remember to check out nearby too!!!
thanks
Maureen
Maureen, there are several Donut Stops in Amarillo, all owned by the same folks. I'm quite sure they are all very good. The one we usually stop at is at 515 E. Amarillo Blvd. (Route 66) at the Lincoln St. Intersection. It's the easiest one if you're on Route 66 heading east. After you eat your fill, you are just three block from the left turn onto Taylor St. that is Route 66. We have also stopped at the 5815 I-40 Frontage Rd. store while on I-40 heading back home.
Wow, only seven days until your trip. Have a great time, and may I be the first to say "Welcome to the U.S.A".
Jim in North Carolina.
ahhh will plot those coordinates now as would like to visit the same one and say Jim in North Carolina suggested this place, no doubt they will smile politely and think ''crazy brit''!!!
many thanks for the confirmation of the address and the Frontage Store suggestion.
You are indeed the first to give the welcome and may I say in return ''well thank you kindly sir'' (that sounded very Morgan Freeman in my head)
6 days and counting. Oh and a small thing of a wedding on Saturday to do first, cripes still cleaning the house!

Have a great trip Maureen, and enjoy the Donut Stop. I'm sure you will. If you happen to stop by the Blue Swallow in Tucumcari tell Kevin, and Nancy "Jim the old Cop from North Carolina" will see them soon. They will know who you are talking about. We always have a great time staying with them.
BTW, I heard Morgan Freeman when I read the quote. 🙂
Hi Kitty, we are doing a 3 week trip this month including R66 from Barstow to Amarillo before heading down through Tx to visit friends just north of Houston. On Duanes advice we are staying at Canyon rather than Amarillo itself. We will be coming in from the cadillac ranch before heading south. We will be in Canyon the night of 21st September.
Really looking forward to the trip.
Peter
