We've returned home to the UK after 21 glorious days on the road. We detoured from Kingman to Vegas, Death Valley, Bakersfield then down the Coast road from Shell Beach to LA. Total miles: 3108.4 and some wonderful photos and better memories. Would love to hear other people's 2016 road trip stories on here too sometime. Had some brilliant motels along the way and some good recommends for eating too, if anyone is planning on doing this next year.

Looking to do Route 66 early September 2017, flights booked, Car hire sorted. What was the best part of the journey for you? Initially it looks quite daunting with the mileage involved but really looking forward to it. If you could recommend some good hotels along the way that would help with the planning of this road trip.
