Where should I pick up the car?
If you’re flying in to Chicago and travelling east to west then an ideal pick-up location for Route 66 car hire would be Chicago O’Hare Airport (ORD). However, if you plan on staying in Chicago for a day or so, then set the pick-up location to simply “Chicago” and you’ll be presented with a range of downtown options. Same applies if you’re flying in to LA and heading east – either collect from Los Angeles Airport (LAX) or a downtown alternative.
What about one-way hire?
Most Route 66 road trips tend to require one-way car hire (for example, picking up in Chicago and dropping off at LA). If you only plan on driving the car one-way then be sure to uncheck the box that says “Return car to the same location”. Be aware that there’s always a one-way fee applicable if you want to drop the car off at a different location.
