Put on some road-music and go surfing down Route 66! Enjoy road icons like the Chain of Rocks Bridge, Blue Whale of Catoosa, Pops, and Blue Swallow Motel – all shown in fresh new ways – plus scenes that have been overlooked for 80 years. Oh, and be prepared for an occasional outrageous caption that may figure into a trivia question later.

Route 66 becomes a very long work of art at www.rt66pix.com. Photographer Frank Gifford (no relation to the ex-football player) showcases its icons, signs, ruins, vehicles and people in more than 525 Mother Road images. All are exclusively available through the site as art-quality photographs, and more than half are captioned for T-shirts, mugs and other merchandise.

You can literally spend hours exploring a wealth of American road, car, gas station and sign photographs in full-screen beauty. The neon section alone has more than 100 images. Plus there’s a Blog with extensive travel and photographic information, even a “Fun!” section with loopy road-questions.

This second edition updates 90 pages of the first. The EZ66 GUIDE was developed by Route 66 historian, Jerry McClanahan and The National Historic Route 66 Federation to make it as easy as possible for travellers to find and follow the various alignments of Route 66. The guides have been used by thousands from around the world. The 200 page guide is spiral bound, to make it easy to use while travelling. It includes easy to use maps you can follow going EAST or WEST. I personally used this guide and found it invaluable. In my opinion everyone should have a copy of this if they’re thinking of driving Route 66. Brilliant. Only available from the US.

Billy Connolly takes the ultimate road trip as he travels the world’s most famous highway, Route 66, Billy turns Easy Rider and follows a lifelong dream as he makes the iconic 2488 mile journey from Chicago to Santa Monica. With his unrivalled ability to tell a great story, he brings to life both the big and small moments of American history: the world changing events and the comic asides.

Billy says: “Travelling Route 66 has always been a lifelong ambition – It brings together some of my favourite things – my trike, my banjo and America. The ultimate road trip”.

On his way, Billy will meet disciples of Route 66, from seasoned “roadies” to first-timers living the dream. And he won’t just be passing through: anything could happen on the way…

Having always dreamt about taking a trip on the legendary Route 66, Billy Connolly finally heads off on the ride of a lifetime. Traveling all 2,488 miles of this epic road, hitting both its classic landmarks and uncovering lesser-known gems, Billy shares the experiences of the countless travelers who have taken the journey before him. Packed with local flavor, the tales he gathers on the way, from the skyscrapers of Chicago through the Wild West badlands of Oklahoma and Texas and on to the beaches of the Pacific coast, tell the story of modern America – and they might just inspire a few readers to get on their bikes as well. The book also contains a section with maps, playlists, recipes, and more, bringing the reader to the heart of this adventure.
