I felt as though I was looking at a painting :-) My wife and I stayed the night at Yavapai Lodge and got up at 5am to watch the sunrise which was pretty spectacular as the colours were amazing. We then spent an hour walking down into the canyon - it was a very memorable visit and I can't wait to do it again.

Nice 10 minute ride from Rt 66 to the caverns down a tree covered road. Really a cool experience down in the caverns. Great gift shop. Highly recommended.

The most impressive stop on our Route 66 trip! Words can't describe the awe you experience while standing at the top looking across the Canyon. It's called the "Grand" Canyon for a reason. DO NOT MISS!

I regret not seeing this. We arrived in LA quite late and basically walked to the end of the Route and found a plaque on the floor near the sea front for a photo op and then went for a bite to eat. The following day we did all the touristy things in LA - Hollywood bus tour, Mann's Chinese Theatre, Warner Bros tour etc... - but didn't check out the pier. Next time :-)

We also stayed at the Wigwam in August and it was part of an unforgetable journey. The Wigwam is a part of American roadie folklore. Sitting outside our Wigwam under the beautiful and cool Arizona evening sky, tipping back a few cold ones and chatting it up with our fellow roadies was a memory I'll keep forever.

Loved our time here. The end of a long days driving and we were chuffed to get a room. Cooled off in the Texas shaped pool before going to see Cadillac Ranch, one of the highlights of our trip. Came back and had dinner in the steakhouse while watching someone trying, and failing, to eat a 72oz steak. Great gift shop here. Spent a fortune!! The went back to our 'cowboy themed' room that opened up onto an outside corridor and the windows had wooden shutters :)

I just stayed here this weekend and loved it! The heater kept our room nice and toasty, the bed was comfortable and the shower was hot. At night it's so quiet you can hear the trains rolling through town. And their vintage car collection is amazing. I will happily stay here again!

I loved it too when we stayed there in August (2011). It was so exciting to be in a concrete wigwam. The shower was on the small side but I had to have one just so I could say I'd showered in a wigwam. I'll never forget sitting outside it at 6.00 in the morning listening to the trains rumbling past, enjoying the hot sunshine and thinking about our day ahead on Route 66. Another highlight was eating (twice cos it was so good) at Joe and Aggies just down the road.
