The Angels on the Route building has been a part of history for quite some time. Originally opened in 1865 as Cooper’s Dry Goods Store, the building has been a drug store, treasure shop and donut shop before it’s new incarnation as a top rated restaurant in Baxter Springs. Visitors praise the staff, food and live entertainment (Angels offers live music on Friday and Saturday).
In good weather you might even catch some live music out front – particularly refreshing with a cooling milkshake and specially made sandwiches. Baxter Springs is a great place to stop in Kansas and Angels on the Route is highly recommended for a spot of lunch – the staff will make you feel at home and the shop offers a good range of Route 66 merchandise to commemorate your stop.
“Angels on the Route is a great soup, sandwich and frozen custard shop on Route 66. Located in Baxter Springs, KS.”
“The building was renovated but still has a lot of history within it. Sue would be happy to tell you the story as you have a cup of soup or coffee. It is a MUST see. I would rate it *****.”
